Lawrence asked:

I recently had a heart attack, and the doctors tell me caffeine can affect the heart’s rhythm.

I have been told that mate tea contains a stimulant similar to caffeine, but not the same and it doesn’t make you as jittery.

Does anyone know how the mate stimulant is different from regular caffeine?

I am planning to star drinking an energy drink called “Redline”, which basically has the same amount of caffeine as 4 cups of coffee. This will drive me off the wall after one bottle.

My main concern is dependency. How much time should I wait before I drink the next bottle so I dont develop a tolerance to the caffeine?

When I drink caffeine my nerves get shot. Usually I avoid it, but once in awhile I’ll drink something with it. Is there anything I can eat or drink after that will counterbalance the effects? Thanks.

I recently concluded that i get very upset (stress, sometimes even some sort of a panic attack) when i drank some coffee (only 1 cup really). It would be logical to assume it is because of the Caffeine. However, because i can drink a few glasses of coke without a problem, i find it kind of strange…

Also, is there a way to drink something to counter (neutralize) caffeine? Sometimes the panic attack takes and heartbeats take a long time. Thank you.

Max without heart palpitations/ other negative heart issues. No need to lecture on the negativity of caffeine. You’d be preaching to the deaf choir on that one. Just give a number range please.

I take in a good amount of caffeine over the course of the day. I am just wondering how bad (or good) it really is. My girlfriend and co-workers give me a hard time about it. I’m just wondering what the negatives and positives are to caffeine

How do you diet when you are served precooked meals in a cafe? Watered down milk and dry salads?

I know to regulate how much I eat, to eat a salad every day. but we dont get many choices. iceburg lettuce, fake bacon bits, peppers and sour smelling tomatos arent my idea of a salad. but you cant force yourself to eat that every meal. the only advice we are told by the ‘nutritionalist’ is follow the css, cereal soup and salad. but when the cereal they offer is way too sugary, the soup has a layer of grease, and the salad is left out on the bar for hours, it isnt easy. I have a major weight problem, I dont get enough exercise, the foods that are offered are way too high in calories, but I cant afford (92$ a month) to go out and buy food for myself. Even if I could, there is nowhere to put it. I’ve asked for other options, morningstar burgers, soy milk, and whole wheat bread things like that, but they wont provide unless its a relgious or medical choice, unfortunatly, they say my religous choices dont count, so I’m not offered these options. I water the milk, and dont use mayo, help!!
The Reason I didnt add about my dieting is because that is a seperate issue at the moment. this topic is just about cafe food and anything I can do about regulating calories, when I dont even know the nutritional value of what I’m offered.
ok, I take it back, I should add in why, though really it is exercise itself, I am a landscaper, I’m outside in the sun and heat for 8- 10 hours a day. You’d think that would help, but all its done id pack on muscle, and weight, I havent lost any fat. I know the whole you’ll gain before you loose, but I’ve been working for two years like this. Nothings gone down but but my energy at the end of the day.
I cant figure out how to reply to your questions directly, sorry.

and to tara, yes, we have another option, our center has a small snack shop, full of ‘deep fried goodness’ which I stay away from unless I miss a meal.

I’ve been trying to lose weight, Went two months eating really well, I was on teaching practice (im studying to be a teacher) and lost about 2kg. Then as soon as i get back to college im eating badly again. The biggest problem is the cafe there. I can take my own lunch but I find it really hard to ignore the chocolate bars, hot chocolate, fizzy drinks, pies etc etc that they have there and because i have my wallet with me I find it impossible to resist buying something. I know it sounds pathetic but it’s really a problem. I find college sooo boring, sometimes it’s the only good thing to do (to drink a nice warm hot chocolate or eat a savoury). What do I do? anyone got any tips to stop me being drawn in by all the crappy food they have?
i’ts the only hangout place, so i go there with my friends at lunches and morning tea etc.
I have to have my wallet either for busing or buying books etc.
like the chocolate chip idea tho..
