I have a project that requires me to come up with a service to add to a office building. The service needs to benefit the employees there and the complex itself. I have chosen to add a cafe. I need some outside opinions on the benefits the service would have.
Obviously, provides an on-site location for lunch. An on-site cafe benefits employees because they don’t have to drive, thus saving gas and wear & tear on the vehicle. Also reduces their risk of being in an accident slightly, since they will drive fewer miles. Provides an alternative for lunch on days when time is running short. The benefits to the businesses are having a convenient location for catering meetings, ordering boxed lunches. The employees and executives of the businesses can work through lunch and still have lunch delivered to the office, and sometimes you just have to keep a group focused or a meeting running even though it’s lunch time. Reduces tardiness and absenteeism since employees remain on site.
There’s a benefit, although probably not a huge one, to the office complex owners/managers: the more people who stay on-site for lunch, the fewer cars that will be going in and out, and over time this will result in a decrease in wear and tear on the paving, curbs, etc. Don’t know if it’s a big enough benefit to even measure but it’s a possibility.
Having an on-site cafe gives employees at the various companies an opportunity to meet each other in a relaxed setting. This type of networking can be of great benefit to employees and employers, as people share their knowledge or discover the services offered by their business neighbors.
